And the winners were…

16 Jul
Dear Diary,

Last night was another vintage Jumpers For Goalposts.  Jake Bugg was awesome, but I’ll let Joey tell you about him. Me and Nick played tunes and were very definitely the most professional DJs to grace those decks, EVER. I only played 2 songs at the wrong speed and we only had 2 bigs gaps where music should’ve been. Brilliant.  We did play some great tunes though… a bit of Prince, Nilsson, MSTRKRFT, Nina Simone, Dexy’s, LCD Sound System and more.

The craft was pretty strong too. The bug/celeb competition proved popular and giving the rules out in advance definitely meant that people came prepared with puns and sketches. So, without further ado….. (imagine a drum roll, diary…..) HERE ARE THE WINNERS!

BRONZE

Prize winner "talking through his entry"

Scott demonstrates "The Crane" from Karate Kid

Broze prize winner at Jumpers for Goalposts

Congratulations to Scott on his "Ralph Macchiantis" scooping 3rd place

Bronze prize-winner Scott made a praying mantis inspired by Ralph Macchio’s often-imitated, never-bettered “Crane” move in the Karate Kid movie from the 80’s. This craft creation earned him 3rd place and a bug-inspired prize – a biography of ANTony Kiedis (see what we did there??) with a picture of an ANT stuck on it.

SILVER

Proud to be taking 2nd place prize at Jumpers for Goalposts

Well done on the quality of the entry which was Ladybug Marilyn Manson

The second prize was definitely awarded on the quality of the craft, not the pun, as Ladybug Marilyn Manson doesn’t really count as a pun at all. Luckily the artist’s skill & vision carried this entry right through to second place earning her a wonderful Incy Wincy Spider book (don’t let Joey explain it to you… he’s always giving away spoilers) and a wiggly bug thing which, according to Holly, “smells nice”. Awesome.

GOLD

The creators of "Big Daddy Long Legs" take a bow

Abi & Dan romped home in first place with "Big Daddy Long Legs"

Looking good Joey! Abi & Dan were unanimously voted GOLD MEDAL WINNERS for their wonderful “Big Daddy Long Legs” entry. It was well-conceived, had a good pun and was beautifully executed. Look at the pride on their faces. That’s what Jumpers for Goalposts can do for you. Plus, as winners of the first place and gold prize they got wine. An actual good prize. None of your Incy Wincy rubbish for them!

So, diary, I think you can see a good night was had by all. Here’s a quick picture of Jake for you before I say goodbye:

as i said to nick…’the voice of chocolate’ (yorkie), or a slightly melted orchid, as nick thought i said.
nonsense aside, jake bug has the most amazing voice i’ve hear in a very long time. (the chocolate bit is supposed to be a compliment.)

Sounds cracking, love the bug idea – giving the rules out in advance?! Controversial. Missing it as ever. DJing sounds tiiiiiiiight! Anders – hope Truck was ace!

Hey, nothing wrong with giving out the rules in advance… meant we got a very good Ralph Macchio / Karate Kid / Crane based entry to the comp!
